Cincinnati Team Spirit

As I walked off the plane at Logan International Airport in Boston, I immediately felt the biting cold of the upper 30º F winter air.  This was definitely not sunny California, but I was excited to be there because I knew what the weekend had in store for us.

Sheel Patel picked Sid Taberlay and I up from the airport and dropped us off at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge.  After we checked in and cleaned up, it was already dinner time.  We were scheduled for dinner with Dr. Bookwalter, Dr. Fuller, Dr. McColgan, Edwin Rivera and Michael Mo.  The purpose of the dinner was for both Dr. Bookwalter and Dr. McColgan to meet Dr. Fuller for the first time.  It was a meeting of two different philosophies; both Dr. Bookwalter and Dr. McColgan are surgeons but Dr. Fuller is a Naturopathic Doctor.

We were all to meet in the lobby at 7 pm.  When I got downstairs, I was curious to see the conference room and as I walked down the hall I heard a very loud voice that was filled with such enthusiasm; it was Dr. Bookwalter conversing with Michael Mo.

My first impression of Dr. Bookwalter was that he had this warm, welcoming, non-assuming spirit.  We shook hands and hugged like we’ve known each other forever, even though this was my first time meeting him in person.  Dr. Fuller and Edwin Rivera met us in the lobby and off we went to KO Prime.

We met Dr. McColgan at the restaurant; both Dr. Bookwalter and Dr. McColgan greeted each other with warm brotherly love.  Already there was this great energy amongst us.  As we all sat down together, there was a very warm and fuzzy feeling inside me, like we’re all a huge family coming together after so much time being apart.

At dinner Dr. McColgan was bragging about Dr. Bookwalter’s achievements, what he meant to the medical field, how innovative he was to create the Bookwalter Retractor, and how almost every surgeon knows that name.  Dr. Bookwalter came across like it was no big deal.  He said, “It was not something that I was trying to invent, it was created out of necessity.  Back in my day I didn’t have much help and I needed a tool to help me with my surgeries.”

That statement alone symbolizes his whole personality; he was never too proud and always very humble, what a very special human being that he is.  The food was magnificent and the conversations were great and warm.  There were many topics of conversation that evening.  The doctors were speaking of the medical field and things that I couldn’t even conceive or understand, after all, I did fail biology.  We got to know each other very well.  One of the topics was cars.  Both Dr. Bookwalter and Dr. McColgan are definitely car fanatics. They love Ferraris, so I told them that Michael Mo bought the 599 recently.  Dr. Bookwalter was curious about what car Michael drove before he bought the 599.  He told him that he drove a Bentley Continental GT.  Dr. Bookwalter laughed and said, “That’s the car I’m looking to buy.  I can barely even afford the Bentley and you already have a 599!”

As we were wrapping up, I tried to pay for the bill, but Michael has already beaten me to the punch.  The Doctors and Edwin were very appreciative that Michael took the honors and paid for dinner.  That is just like Michael, always so grand and selfless.  I know the reasons of Michael’s actions; he was in complete appreciation of what was happening here.  During dinner I can see how he was just digesting and taking in the moment of how all of us were together.  I know Michael sees the synergy between us and the great successful future we will together.

After dinner we all went back to the hotel to get some rest, but Dr. Bookwalter and Edwin decided to have a night cap.  As soon as we arrived at the hotel they both went straight to bar.  The next morning Edwin commented that Dr. Bookwalter is such a great and cool guy.

On Saturday, as usual we started the event at 11 am sharp and the room was packed.  Again, I am so proud of our Distributors because everyone looked very sharp and had incredibly professional attitudes.  It is a very important time rite now because the economy has worsened; the economical state of the country and the world is not getting any better.  It was good for me and all the reps to know that we have something, we have a solution.  Dr. Bookwalter, Dr. Fuller, Dr. McColgan, and Tim Brown’s presence assured us of that.  With all of us in the same room together, it just felt right.  We all knew that something special is happening.

After my presentation many reps came up again testifying how incredible the products have been for them, how they have changed their lives.  This is starting to become a common theme and it gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

On our lunch break with the FC, the Doctors, and Tim Brown on the Mezzanine level, once again Dr. Bookwalter was the center of attention.  He started telling us his life story, about the time when his father and grandfather were physicians, and how in the early 1900s his grandfather took out patients’ appendixes on the kitchen table. We all sat there amazed, just listening to how friendly he was.

Then, we all got back into the presentation room and I introduced Dr. Bookwalter.
His credentials are so long that I had to read it; it was so extensive and I couldn’t even pronounce some of the words.  What an honor for me.

While he was on stage he didn’t talk about medicine.  He spoke about what I spoke about - taking responsibility for yourself, which is how he got to where he is in life.  He’s also learning about naturopathic medicine and preventative health.  He encouraged us that we were going in the right direction.  It was short, simple, and to the point.

I then I brought up Dr. Fuller. It was a very exciting moment for me because I knew that she was going to introduce us to her latest and greatest formula that nobody in the world has.  Her information was very detailed and clear.  What was so significant was learning that what we know as being “good” for us, eating cooked food, can actually be toxic for our body and depletes our immune system which leads to illness.  Her special blend of digestive enzymes is the solution.  They help to supplement the enzymes that are no longer present in our foods after we’ve cooked them.

Dr. Fuller told us that there are four different types of bodies and that you have to be very astute and knowledgeable to understand the various different blends of enzymes needed for these four different types of bodies of ours.  In her 25 years of experience she finally came up with her latest highest potency blend.  As she was talking about it, I can see everyone just at complete attention, listening and absorbing all the information she had to share because we  all agreed, whether we are young or old, we have digestive issues and for some of us, it is very painful.

Once Dr. Fuller was done, I asked everyone “is it true that we all have digestive issues?”  About 90 percent of the people raised their hand with eagerness and hope.  We took a break and everybody swarmed Dr. Fuller as they all wanted to know which body type they were.

After the break I introduced Tim Brown, he was very exciting.  He was exceptionally enthusiastic and passionate when he spoke.  He explained to us how he encountered Dr. Fuller, how most football players have an average career of 3.5 years and how through Dr. Fuller’s technology, he was able to play 3 additional years after having already played 14 years in football.  He is so grateful for Dr. Fuller’s supplement technology that he calls her his other mother.

Next came on Dr. McColgan, our Chief Science Officer, who also confirmed that we have some very unique products and stated that he is definitely impressed with Dr. Fuller’s lifetime of research of enzymes.  Dr. McColgan affirmed that what we have in our hands is unlike anything he has seen in all his years of practice.

In the midst of the event, Dr. Hughes finally arrived due to his busy schedule. The event ended with recognition of Distributors who have made advancements in the Company and an autograph session which included Dr. Bookwalter, Dr. Fuller, Dr. McColgan and his wife Yuko, Tim Brown, Michael Mo and myself.  We were also joined by Dr. Hughes who was just listed in Boston Magazine’slist of Top Doctors of 2008.

We were all sitting behind a long table signing books, posters, magazines, newsletters, etc. for all the Distributors with Dr. Fuller sitting towards the end of the table.  We instructed everybody not to ask questions because we were short on time, but nobody listened as they were all too curious to find out what body type they were.  Being such a wonderful person, she could not say no to the Distributors.  Luckily we were able to get through everybody’s questions and sign everybody’s items.

We finished up shortly after 7 pm and Michael and I met up for dinner with Adriana Gomez, Ahmad Evaji, Cynthia Banh, Johnny Ly, Josh Lau, Ryan Jackson, Sheel Patel, all the Doctors and Tim Brown.  We had our own private room at Bonfire Steakhouse, I was sitting next to Dr. Bookwalter and all he can say all night long was how impressed he was to see that many young people, from all walks of life, of all different nationalities, that are so passionate about health.  He has never seen anything like this before.  Dr. Hughes was pretty quiet, simply enjoying the evening with a huge grin on his face all night long.  The FC Members that were there huddled around Tim Brown and Dr. Fuller conversing with them about the various types of enzyme supplements available and various health issues.

What an incredible team of people. We have an elite group of traditional doctors who are leaders in their trade; we have one of the most innovative Naturopathic Nutritionists, a Heisman Trophy winning, star NFL player, and a group of young, eager entrepreneurs.  What do we all have in common?  We all want to make a difference.  I think that everyone saw that the Doctors and Tim Brown were so impressed with my young Founder’s Council, their professionalism, and the potential we have to impact the world…to help offer people preventive medicine.

It was getting late; around eleven o’clock we decided to adjourn and shared very sincere goodbyes with each other.  I sat in the car going back to the hotel and Dr. Bookwalter kept on saying what a fine group of people we are and what an incredible lady Dr. Fuller is.  He was so happy to be with us.  He also invited me to his annual event that he hosts for all his colleagues consisting of top surgeons.  I asked him, “How do I fit in?”

He said, “You’ll fit in fine.  You will like all my friends and I want them to meet you because I think you are doing something special.”

That made me feel very humbled and honored coming from a man that is so accomplished.  It’s funny how I still have nightmares of failing my biology class and now I have this great accomplished surgeon who is inviting me to rub elbows with this elite group of Doctors.  In school, they probably would have failed me out of their class, but know I have the opportunity to make them my friends.  I never thought I would ever be in this position.

The following day we all got back together, but this time it was just Michael, myself and sales team.  Michael did incredible job explaining all the technology behind the products then went on to answer some questions.  Time flew by and before we knew it, it was already 6 pm.  This was another wonderful event; like myself, every single Distributor did not want to the event to end.

After our event Michael and I spent a little more time signing more autographs and speaking to individuals on a personal level.  I got a chance to meet Distributors that I have never had interactions with.  We were able to make more intimate connections with the Distributors that needed more attention.

Later that evening, Michael and I headed off to dinner with the local Boston Leaders (David Hul, Frances Famador-Elias, Henry Chan, Huy Ly, Jeff Jean, Kathy Lau, Lisa Chang, Mercedes Tran, and Phonethip Panyanouvong), Sheel Patel, Johnny Ly, Josh Lau  and Sid Taberlay.  We had a private room at Fugakyu Japanese Cuisine and at first everybody was very shy.  This may have been because Johnny Ly, Michael Mo, and I were in the room.

We were all very excited to meet with them; after all, that’s what we were there for – to meet and support the local leaders of Boston.  They were a little bashful at first, almost to the point where it was awkward, so I broke the ice by asking them what their interests and goals were in the Company.  We went across the room; each and every one of them gave me a short yet adequate answer.  It was obvious to me that they are all very special.  To reach the level they are at, to be the top producers in Boston, is definitely not easy.   However, they are all still very young and have quite a bit more to learn to truly excel and take their business to the next level; especially with the standards that I require of all the Leaders in YOR Health.

As everyone was telling me their story, I noticed that the girls (Kathy, Lisa, Mercedes, and Phonethip) all had something in common.  They all asked the same questions.  They all stated that they can do sales but wondered why they are so emotional?

Now at the age of 46, I can really see why these highly talented and aggressive young ladies are so emotional.  It’s simply because they have such a strong desire and will, yet they have not learned the other aspects of reality.  They have not developed the dynamics to work things smoothly, so of course, as they push through the complications of reality, of doing business they will struggle, conquer, and grow.  I told each and every one of them that this is normal because they are all driven. The guys are also emotional, but they express it differently.  They seem to be more able to carry on without expressing anything at all

Another topic amongst the group was their inner feelings that they don’t quite understand.  As I reflected with them about all their challenges, I realized that they are directly proportional to their personal self-development and that each and every one of them has different issues that they have not worked out yet.  The most important thing that evening was that there was sincere dialogue.  Even tears were present for some.  I looked over at Sheel’s face; he had on a delighted look because his inner circle had a chance to go through these inner feelings with Johnny, Michael, and me.  At the same time he was shocked that they had never told him these things.

Sheel later told me that he realized that their relationship has not reached deeper level in terms of their core personal issues.  Sheel was amazed that within a couple of hours everyone was very open with me and shared very intimate stories about what bothers them and the things that they are still confused about.  I reminded Sheel that he did an incredible job and that’s the reason Johnny, Michael and I were there.  Eventually, he will be able to do the same thing.  I explained how all the work that he does with his team at the moment is the most valuable.  They work with you everyday and that is your inner circle.  I also reminded him that he is still young, so is his team and the Company. I advised him to be confident that what he is doing is headed in the right direction.

Today is Thursday December 11, 2008, just a few days after the event and Sheel told me that his inner circle has a much clearer sense of direction, they are less emotional, more focused, more inspired, feel empowered to march forward, and he is completely.  So Boston…mission accomplished.
